Amanda Marple

Amanda Marple is a Appalachia cooperator currently completing a Masters of Geography at West Virginia University on the intersection of student food cooperatives, food sovereignty, and diverse economies within the context of a neoliberal university landscape. In addition to being a full time graduate student, Amanda has worked with FIRSTHAND Co-op for the last 5 years, an organization supporting the development of youth leaders and social entrepreneurs who are committed to building just and sustainable economies through a unique cooperative profit sharing model. By sourcing and selling fair-trade and organic coffees, FIRSTHAND works to build alternative economic futures in mountain communities at home and abroad by supporting local community wealth-building and food sovereignty initiatives.
