Alexia Kulwiec is currently an Assistant Professor at the University of Wisconsin-Extension, Labor Education Department, School for Workers. Prior to entering the field of education, Alexia served as Chief Counsel to SEIU Local 1 in Chicago, and Associate Counsel to the IUOE Local 150, in Illinois, representing labor unions and employees for many years. Much of Alexia’s current work is focused on labor conditions with the food system, including the impact of the lack of competition on workers, the need to include labor concerns in the fair food movement, and labor in mid size agriculture. At the UW School for Workers, Alexia teaches labor and employment law, collective bargaining, union representation, workers rights, women’s leadership, grievance and arbitration, workers compensation, and dispute resolution. In addition to labor in the food system, Alexia has written on a variety of issues involving interpretation of the National Labor Relations Act. Alexia received her J.D. from Chicago Kent College of Law, and her B.A. in economics from the University of Notre Dame.
